This book is about the many Air Tanker Boom Operators who flew on the Dallas TANG (Texas Air National Guard) KC-97L Tankers during the Cold War with the Soviet Russians in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The story is about 30 or so tanker “Boomers” and their contributions to the mission of the refueling U.S. Air Force and Air Guard fighters. It highlights Bobby Taylor, one of the original five “Texas Boomers.”

The Boomers owned the refueling business end of each tanker and were a key to every successful air refueling. They were the voice to be obeyed by every fighter jock needing or wanting JP-4 jet fuel in order to complete their mission. Many a wild fighter jock was consoled to settle down on a boom basket or into position for a probe contact/hookup by a smooth talking boomer. Bobby Taylor’s remarkable total flight time exceeded 15,000 hours when he finally hung up his flight suit in 1998 – 34 years wearing the “green bag” flight suit.
