Billy Jim Bowie enlisted in the U. 5. Army Air Corps prior to WW II and received his silver wings through the Army Aviation Cadet training. Before he knew it, he was immersed in flying bombing missions against the Germans and Italians in North Africa and then Europe. He was a true many motored pilot and relished the power supplied by large round engines. He followed that multi engine path through his flying career for his country in peace and through later wars.
